Legendary Mexican restaurant on the south side. Ive been going to this place for over 20 years. Awesome Tacos and tortas. A certified mexican chicago staple. It doesnβt get more authentic than Pacos Tacos!
Overview
The first time I walked into Paco's Tacos 2, tucked along 6034 S Pulaski Rd, Chicago, IL 60629, United States, it felt like stepping into a neighborhood ritual rather than just another meal stop. The place hums with regulars calling in orders, families sharing booths, and cooks moving with the confidence that comes from doing the same thing well for years. You can sense right away that this diner-style taqueria isnβt chasing trends; itβs focused on consistency, speed, and flavor.
Iβve eaten here enough times to notice how the menu stays tight but satisfying. Instead of overwhelming you with endless options, it leans into classics: tacos packed with seasoned carne asada, al pastor shaved straight off the spit, tender carnitas, and juicy grilled chicken. The tortillas are warm and pliable, a small detail that makes a huge difference, and the toppings are fresh without trying to be fancy. One cashier once told me their salsa prep starts early every morning, and you can taste that effort in the balance of heat and acidity. People often describe the tacos as bold flavors done right, and that sums it up perfectly.
What stands out is how efficiently the kitchen runs. Orders move fast even during the dinner rush, which lines up with what restaurant operations research often highlights: streamlined menus reduce errors and speed service. According to studies referenced by the National Restaurant Association, smaller menus can improve consistency and customer satisfaction, and thatβs exactly what happens here. Iβve never waited long, and my order has always come out exactly as expected.
Reviews around the neighborhood echo similar experiences. Locals frequently mention late-night visits after work or weekend stops with family, praising both value and portion size. One regular I chatted with said he drives in from a few miles away because the steak tacos remind him of spots he grew up with. That kind of loyalty doesnβt come from hype; it comes from repetition and trust. In food safety terms, the kitchen also checks boxes that matter. Practices aligned with guidelines promoted by organizations like the CDC-proper food handling, clean prep areas, and hot food served hot-are visible even to a casual diner, which adds to peace of mind.
The location itself plays a role in its appeal. Sitting right on Pulaski Road, itβs easy to reach whether youβre grabbing a quick lunch, ordering takeout, or feeding a car full of friends. Parking is straightforward, and the diner-style setup makes it easy to eat in without feeling rushed. Iβve brought first-time visitors here who were skeptical, only to hear them say the same thing after their meal: simple food that hits the spot.
Of course, no place is perfect. Seating can feel tight during peak hours, and if youβre looking for modern fusion or upscale plating, this isnβt that kind of spot. But that limitation is also its strength. It knows what it is and sticks to it. From a broader food culture perspective, that focus reflects what many chefs and culinary historians emphasize: authenticity isnβt about trends, itβs about repetition, memory, and community.
Over time, Paco's Tacos 2 becomes less about a single visit and more about being part of your regular rotation. Whether youβre scanning reviews before trying a new location or just craving a reliable taco run, it delivers a grounded, satisfying experience that keeps people coming back without needing to shout about it.

Food was great! Hot, fresh and fast and very affordable. Service was friendly and quick since they were quite busy early in the day, very surprised there weren't any sit down tables but instead they had options to sit in a high chair at any spot against a long table attached to the walls or facing their large windows. The place was very clean and bright along with being quite chilly inside to which I didn't mind.
I went to the other locations years ago, and I didn't care much for the food to ever go back a second time. Now, to this location was my first time going, and wow, was I surprise! The tacos were awesome!! And huge!!!! The place was busy, but we still got our food pretty quickly. Everything was great! I'm not much of a salsa person, but I did enjoy the green salsa. I actually went a second time about a week later because of how good they were. Definitely in my top 3 fave restaurants.
Taco's and Burritos are stacked!!!! Food was fresh and fast to the window. Pricey until you see how much you get. Will be back.
Went here for the first time today and tried the carne asada tacos. Best tacos Iβve ever had in my life. Good portions at a decent price. Highly recommend!
Paco Tacos is a hidden gem that never disappoints! The food is always fresh, flavorful, and made with care. Their tacos are packed with perfectly seasoned meat, fresh cilantro, and lime that brings everything together.
